System requirements:

The absolute minimum is a Pentium II with 300 MHz, 64 MB RAM and a video card with 16 MB memory. Recommended is a processor with 700 MHz and a video card with 32 MB VRAM (with the speed of a Geforce 2 MX). OpenGL drivers and DirectX 8 (or better) are required in any case.

What's it all abou?

Fun Racing is a racing game which offers game modes with weapons besides the possibility for a normal races. There is the possibility for single races, against the computer or over a network. Singleplayers also can play a career mode in which you can play a season consisting of 10 races as often as you want. If you are good enough (and if you don't play with on lowest difficulty level), you can get a bonus car there.

Controls:

The controls are customizable (under Options/Input). The defaults are:

Arrow keys:  Steer/Accelerate/Brake

SPACE: Handbrake

CTRL: Use powerup

BACKSPACE: Look back

C: Change camera position

R: Reset car on track

ENTER: Horn

F12: Take Screenshot

Settings:

Under the menu Options/Video you can set the resolution, the detail level and several other things. The different detail levels are meant for the following computer configurations:

Very low: Processor with less than 400 MHz, 64 MB RAM and a video card with 16 MB VRAM and the speed of a Riva TNT

Low: Processor with 450 MHz, 64 MB RAM and a video card with 16 MB VRAM and the speed of a Riva TNT

Medium: Processor with700 MHz, 128 MB RAM and a video card with 32 MB VRAM and the speed of a Geforce 2 MX

High: Processor with 1 GHz, 256 MB RAM and a video card with 32 MB VRAM and the speed of a Geforce 2

Very hight: Processor with 1.5 GHz, 256 MB RAM and a video card with 64 MB VRAM and the speed of a Geforce 3 or 4

Game modes

Normal race: A race over several laps.

Race with powerups: Like a normal race, but some additional extras lie on or next to the track. The one who picks them up has some advantages (see below).

Knockout: After a certain number of laps, every round the one who finishes the lap as last one gets disqualified.

K.O. with powerups: Knockout with some extras lying on the track.

Race to death: Like a normal race, but everyone who gets hit by an EMP weapon gets disqualified.

Powerups

EMP mine and EMP rocket

If a car is hit by a rocket or mine, the car electronic is damaged and the car stops for some time.

(During a race to death everyone who gets hit by an EMP weapon gets disqualified.)

Oil

If a car drives through an oil puddle it is out of control for some time. Unlike a mine, oil also remains on the track when a car drives over it.

Laughing gas (N²0)

The injection of laughing gas gives the engine of the car some additional power, but it is only temporary. When using laughing gas, the engine may fail for a short period of time after collisions.

Vehicles:

Elk Victim

A small and compact car, not the fastest vehicle, but extremely agile.

Ambulance

This ambulance car really is not agile, but because of its high weight you can push away smaller cars.

Cop

Police version of an American street cruiser. Heavy, unagile, but not that slow.

Dodge

The civil variant of the police car, but a bit slower than that.

Funeral Car

Not that fast, because such cars are not meant to drive fast, but it's also quite heavy.

Golf

A tuned car for everyone. Fast, light and agile.

Hummer

Not a sports car, but a good compromise between speed, agility and mass.

Pickup

A tuned pickup with quite good acceleration and top speed.

Monster Hummer

Fast, heavy and quite agile for a car of that size.

The Monster Hummer is a bonus car. He becomes available after a season in the career mode has been finished with at least 90 points on the second or third difficulty level.

Problems

If an error message pops up immediately after the program was started you should check if DirectX 8 (or higher) is installed and if you have the correct drivers for your video and audio card installed. The driver of your video card also has to support OpenGL.

The calculation of shadows is not perfect yet. On the second, third and fourth detail level it can happen that the shadow is partly covered by the terrain. On the highest detail level the shadows may look incorrect if you play in the driver perspective and come very close to another car.
